    1. Terms 2 and 3 are called means.

    2.

    36 : 18 = x : 1

    (36)(1) = (x)(18)

    36 = 18x

    36/18 = 18x/18

    2 = x

    3.

    N/8 = 3/4

    (N)(4) = (3)(8)

    4N = 24

    4N/4 = 24/4

    N = 6

    4.

    8 : 4 = 192

    8x + 4x = 192

    12x = 192

    12x/12 = 192/12

    x = 16

    8x = 8(16) = 128

    5.

    5/12 = 35/N

    (5)(N) = (35)(12)

    5N = 420

    5N/5 = 420/5

    N = 84

    6.

    96 : 6 = x : 20

    (96)(20) = (x)(6)

    1,920 = 6x

    1,920/6 = 6x/6

    320 = x

    7. 1/4 = 25%

    8. 2/5 = 40%

    9. 6.45 = 645%

    10.

    P = br

    P = (80)(20%)

    P = (80)(0.2)

    P = 16

    11.

    P = br

    P = (50)(20%)

    P = (50)(0.2)

    P = 10

    12.

    Discount = P500 x 25%

    Discount = P500 x 0.25

    Discount = P125

    Selling Price = P500 - P125 = P375

    13.

    b = p/r

    b = 16/20%

    b = 16/0.2

    b = 80

    r = 60/240

    r = 0.25

    r = 25%

    answer:

    We have x =5y + 3 so we plug in this value in the first equation

    3x + 5y =-6

    3(5y + 3) + 5y =-6

    20y = -15

    y = -15/20 = -3/4

    So:

    X= 5y + 3

    X= 5(-3/4) +3 = 15/4 + 3 = 3/4
