Why plastic materials cannot dissolve easily

    Because plastic is non-polar and water is polar. You can only dissolve something in water if it is polar. Therefore plastic will only dissolve in non-polar substances. Plastic is usually made of carbon and hydrogen bonds, which normally give rise to non-polar compounds.  :>
