    Metals forms cation after ionic bonding.

    Octet rule states that:

    During chemical reaction, atoms may gain, lose, or share the minimum number of valence electron in order to have the same electron configuration of the nearest noble gas.

    Metals will lose its valence electron in order to have the same electron configuration of the noble gas having more protons compared with electrons making it cations.
